CGG GeoSoftware has donated its Hampson-Russell and Jason geophysical software suites, covering all aspects of reservoir characterization, to the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (IIT BBS). Students of Earth Sciences at IIT BBS are using the donated software suites, worth over $5 million, to conduct research into quantitative reservoir characterization based on case studies and real-world scenarios. The aim of their research is to investigate inversion methods that provide better estimations of hydrocarbons in specific targeted zones using seismic data. Abhishek Rai, Ph.D., Assistant Professor for the School of Earth, Ocean and Climate Sciences, IIT BBS, said, âThe GeoSoftware suite is one of the best available tools for reservoir characterization. We gratefully acknowledge this donation by CGG for training our students and conducting research at the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar. Our students immensely benefit by learning and developing quantitative aptitudes in reservoir characterization techniques.â www.cgg.com
