Recognising that it is good practice to regularly review operations, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar recently commissioned ABPmer to appraise its current arrangements for discharging its duties as a Statutory Harbour Authority. Monty Smedley, maritime specialist at ABPmer said, âWe were delighted to undertake this independent review for the Comhairle. ABPmerâs dedicated maritime team has in-depth knowledge and practical application of the various standards and expectations laid down in port and harbour authority codes such as the Department for Transportâs âPort Marine Safety Codeâ and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) âSafety in Docksâ Approved Code of Practice. Our specialists conducted a series of interviews and meetings with members of the Comhairleâs marine team, port management and elected Council Members, in September.  ABPmer presented the findings from the review to the Comhairleâs Harbour Board in a meeting held in Stornoway in early Decemberâ.  www.abpmer.co.uk
