Satellite Imagery: Hurricane Matthew

By [email protected] - 11th October 2016 - 09:16

Westminster, Colorado-based DigitalGlobe, the global leader in Earth imagery and information about our changing planet, today released high-resolution satellite images showing the destruction caused by Hurricane Matthew in Haiti.

DigitalGlobe operates the world’s most advanced constellation of commercial imaging satellites, which provide a unique vantage point of the Earth and enable decisions to be made with confidence.

The difference between the before and after images illustrates the massive amount of damage the hurricane inflicted: buildings destroyed, roofs missing, and trees ripped from the ground. The “after” images, captured by DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-2 satellite on October 9, 2016, show six Haitian towns along the western side of Haiti’s southern peninsula (Les Anglais, Port-à-Piment, Les Cayes, Chardonnieres, Coteau, and Jeremie).

Media are welcome to use these images in print, web, and broadcast stories, with written photo credit “©DigitalGlobe 2016” and verbal credit to DigitalGlobe required for broadcast media. DigitalGlobe can also make a subject matter expert available to discuss how the company’s unique capabilities are being brought to bear in Haiti, and other examples of how the company’s work has saved lives, resources, and time.
