OceanWise and IMarEST to run Marine Data Management Awareness Course

By [email protected] - 10th January 2017 - 18:17

OceanWise, in co-operation with IMarEST, will again be running a one-day Marine Data Management Awareness Course on Wednesday 8th February 2017 at IMarEST HQ, 1 Birdcage Walk, London, SW1H 9JJ.

Data is now considered the “new oil” or the “new electricity!” It costs money so we always collect it for a good reason and, because it is such a valuable asset, it needs to be treated accordingly. A solid understanding of data management is vital for anyone using marine data so we will look at how effective data management can improve your organisation’s efficiency in data acquisition, storage, analysis and re-use. This will enable you to better understand data use in respect of corporate risk, audit and traceability and reducing costs.

We will introduce “Data and Why It Matters” and examine the Data Life-Cycle, Data and Metadata Standards, Co-ordinate Reference Systems and Data Quality and Publishing and discuss the challenges we face in achieving Data Management "Best Practise". So if you are involved in collecting, managing, using or publishing marine data, this course will provide you with an invaluable insight on the world of data.
