RIEGL VZ-400i scan project: Scanning of the Tinoco Tunnel, San José de Maipo, CHILE.

Recently, the GEOCOM team was able to survey the Tinoco tunnel, which is located about 15 kilometers from the city of San José de Maipo in the Andes. It is a magnificent work of engineering carved in rock and has a length of more than 600 meters. It corresponds to a construction made for the transit of the Puente Alto – El Volcán railroad line, which ceased operations in 1985. Today it is abandoned, but its charm attracts numerous visitors and hikers.

In this video we demonstrate the workflow and first results of data acquisition using the RIEGL VZ-400i 3D terrestrial laser scanner. The point cloud shows the smallest details inside and outside the tunnel. The measurement of 66 scan positions took us 1 hour 50 minutes, obtaining 799 million measuring points.

More details can be found in the RIEGL VZ-400i Datasheet.
