Maritime Security & Coastal Surveillance

By [email protected] - 2nd March 2017 - 10:51

Following the success of the Indo Defence Tri-Services Forum 2016 which saw more than 200 senior officers from the Indonesian Army, Navy and Air Force discussing key issues affecting Indonesia’s national sovereignty, Defence IQ is organising the inaugural Maritime Security and Coastal Surveillance Indonesia 2017 conference on 25-26 April 2017 in Jakarta.

The two-day conference will be held in InterContinental Jakarta MidPlaza and is fully endorsed by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia. With the theme of “Securing Indonesia’s Maritime Sovereignty through Asset Modernisation and Technological Innovations”, the conference will discuss the active maritime security and surveillance requirements of various Indonesian government agencies and services as they search for the latest technological solutions to assist them with their operations.

These include operational, procurement and tactical strategies in place to protect freedom of navigation in Indonesia’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and regional waters with the ultimate aim of transforming Indonesia into a global maritime fulcrum.

“The inaugural Maritime Security and Coastal Surveillance Indonesia 2017 conference will offer the ideal platform for the international and regional Navies, Coast Guards and maritime government organisations to revisit the scenario surrounding maritime security and coastal surveillance via a constructive dialogue,” said Dr Timbul Siahaan, Director General of Defence Potential, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia.

Among the government agencies that have confirmed their participation are the Indonesian Navy, Indonesian Air Force, Badan Keamanan Laut Republik Indonesia (Bakamla), Badan SAR Nasional (Basarnas) and Indonesian Marine Police. The top three local defence integrators, PT Pindad, PT Dirgahayu Indonesia and PT PAL Indonesia, have also confirmed their attendance.

With around IDR 104.58tn allocated for defence spending in the 2017 draft national budget, Indonesia remains highly committed to modernising its armed forces and other military organisations as it seeks to protect its national sovereignty and monitor its vast maritime borders against both traditional and increasingly technologically-savvy non-traditional and transnational threats.

“We are extremely pleased to have the full support of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia. We are the market leader for defence conferences in Asia and this endorsement emphasizes the trust placed in us by the Ministry to deliver a high-quality event,” said Hairul Borhan, Conference Director at Defence IQ.
