Landmark Solutions, part of Landmark Information, has announced that it has successfully completed a major project to deliver modernised functionality for Natural England’s MAGIC website. The interactive service generates over ten million maps every month, using over 300 data layers, and provides free access to over 2,500 users every day.

Landmark, which hosts and delivers the interactive mapping tool for Natural England, has revamped MAGIC with a modern user interface, making it easier to access a huge array of maps and data from any device. Enhanced search tools for mapping layers have also been introduced, as well as improved printing options and a range of new tutorial videos for users looking to make the most of the wealth of location-based data provided within the site.

Rick Crowhurst, Public Sector Manager of Landmark Solutions said: “We are delighted to have launched the new MAGIC service. It is an extremely popular website with over 2,500 daily user sessions and more than 10 million maps generated each month across eight themes, three different basemaps and three overview maps.

“We have been hosting and managing the complete service since 2013 and are delighted to have worked in partnership with Natural England to deliver a more modernised MAGIC service, which we believe will deliver a richer experience to all.”

MAGIC launched in 2002 and information covers rural, urban, coastal and marine environments across Great Britain. It is presented in an interactive map, which can be explored using various mapping tools. More than 300 data layers are available on MAGIC. The MAGIC partnership organisations are Natural England, Defra, Environment Agency, Historic England, Forestry Commission and Marine Management Organisation.

Natural England manages the service under the direction of a Steering Group who represent the MAGIC partnership organisations.

Landmark Solutions specialises in large-scale managed services to public sector and private organisations, including supplying technical infrastructure and geospatial data management services to Capita for the government’s FloodRe programme; hosting Ordnance Survey’s digital collection of over one million historical maps; and manages the government’s central Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Registers.
