Garmin® G5000™ Integrated Flight Deck receives STC for Beechjet 400A/Hawker 400XP - Early adopter installations are now underway

OLATHE, Kan. /August 30, 2016/Business Wire — Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted supplemental type certification (STC) for the G5000 avionics suite in the Beechjet 400A/Hawker 400XP aircraft. The G5000 modernizes the cockpit, increases aircraft utility, offers significant weight savings and provides operators with a solution to fulfill global next generation airspace initiatives. Additionally, the G5000 upgrade offers lower cost of operation and solves parts obsolescence with zero-time avionics.

“Achieving certification of the G5000 in the Beechjet is a monumental accomplishment, and on behalf of the entire Garmin team, we are all very proud to bring this modern flight deck upgrade to Beechjet operators today,” said Phil Straub, Garmin vice president and managing director of aviation. “Based on customer interest and the volume of early adopters, the response of this retrofit program has exceeded our expectations. The G5000 offers an elevated level of situational awareness and advanced flight deck capabilities that surpass other solutions available on the market today, while solving a broad range of worldwide operational requirements.”

The G5000 Integrated Flight Deck modernization program for the Beechjet 400A/Hawker 400XP features three high-resolution 12-inch flight displays situated alongside dual touchscreen display controllers that serve as the primary crew interface to the system, simplifying operation and ease of control of the flight deck. Landscape flight displays offer multi-pane capability, allowing up to six independent pages to be displayed simultaneously. Charts can be viewed across all three displays, including FliteCharts™ terminal approach procedures or optional Garmin ChartView powered by Jeppesen, as well as geo-referenced Garmin SafeTaxi® airport diagrams. The integration of SurfaceWatch™ offers visual and aural cues to help prevent pilots from taking off and landing on a taxiway, on a runway that is too short or on the wrong runway based on performance data entered during preflight. In addition to charts, pilots can simultaneously display maps, checklists, TAWS and TCAS information, flight plans, weather and more. Additionally, the G5000 flight deck for the Beechjet 400A/Hawker 400XP is estimated to provide a weight savings of 150 pounds or more compared to the current system, allowing additional baggage, passenger and fuel load flexibility.

“The G5000 has received the admiration and enthusiastic praise of customers throughout the world since its introduction over five years ago. Based on the volume of orders and with many customers’ desire to incorporate a modern Garmin flight deck into their aircraft, we are just as excited to bring this avionics suite to Beechjet customers as they are to fly behind it,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin vice president of aviation sales and marketing. “This flight deck modernization program offers owners and operators a state-of-the-art flight deck that yields a substantially lower cost of operation and delivers an exceptional in-flight experience, which is all backed by a three year warranty and 12 consecutive years of award-winning avionics product support.”

Superior flight control technology is provided by Garmin’s integrated autopilot within the G5000 system. The fully digital, dual channel, fail passive Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS) offers optimized performance throughout the aircraft’s flight envelope. The G5000 system supports a wide range of capabilities including coupled wide area augmentation system (WAAS/SBAS) and PBN/RNP 0.3 with LPV/APV approaches, vertical navigation (VNAV) and flight level change (FLC) modes. Safety enhancing autopilot underspeed protection (USP) is optional and allows the autopilot to assist with airspeed management. Coupled go-arounds are enabled by this technology, greatly reducing pilot workload.

Pilots are provided an elevated level of situational awareness with the G5000 Integrated Flight Deck and optional Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT™), which presents a 3D depiction of virtual terrain, obstacles, traffic and the runway environment so the image on the display replicates what the pilot would see outside the cockpit on a clear day. SVT works seamlessly with Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) alert coloring and voice alerts to warn pilots of potential ground hazards by displaying obstacles and terrain that may pose a threat to the aircraft. The G5000 offers TAWS-B alerting as standard with optional TAWS-A, providing alerts such as excessive closure rate and large glideslope deviations.

The G5000 Integrated Flight Deck is a modernized avionics suite that is equipped to meet and exceed industry requirements, while also offering a lower cost of ownership and a three-year warranty. With the G5000 upgrade, these aircraft receive a fully integrated, FAA and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) rule-compliant Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Out solution. Additionally, Garmin Connext® services are optionally available and include access to worldwide weather, voice calling and text messaging within the G5000.

The GWX 70 weather radar is included as standard equipment and offers four-color storm cell display capabilities with optional Turbulence Detection, which identifies turbulence associated with precipitation moving at high speeds using Doppler technology. Additionally, the Ground Clutter Suppression option removes ground returns from the display so operators can focus on weather of interest. Pilot workload is further reduced with Altitude Compensated Tilt, which automatically adjusts the radar antenna tilt with aircraft altitude changes.

The G5000 flight deck upgrade for the Beechjet has received FAA STC and is available from select Garmin authorized dealers.
