Authoritative Presentations To Augment Fugro’s Presence At Africa Oil Week

Two authoritative presentations will augment Fugro’s presence at Africa Oil Week this year. In addition to their stand in the main exhibition hall and a conference session, the leading geotechnical and geoscience company will run workshops on two of the hottest topics affecting the world’s hydrocarbon industry.

On Wednesday, 2nd November a content-rich workshop with Robert van de Poll, Fugro’s International Manager, Law of the Sea, will provide a detailed review around the African continent, summarising the sensitive maritime frontiers. His interactive seminar, entitled ‘Managing risks associated with Africa’s disputed blue boundaries through an integrated legal-scientific approach’ will include insights into two current cases in the International Courts.

Law of the Sea maritime boundary disputes are now a regular occurrence and the workshop will deliver essential knowledge for senior government officials, senior NOC executives and senior IOC executives, highlighting what is at stake, the present day status of LOS and how to proceed safely.

With a focus on seep hunting and geochemical exploration methodologies, Jim Gharib will explain why companies are increasingly using the techniques despite the current market downturn. His workshop on Thursday, 3rd November will demonstrate effective and economical methods for exploring deepwater frontiers and explain how methods and interpretation can make or break a frontier exploration programme.

While a 3D seismic survey might provide information on the structural trap, and therefore roughly how much is in a reservoir, it is the geochemistry that can reveal what is in the reservoir. Fugro’s dedicated seep hunting team includes several of the world’s leading geoscience experts responsible for bringing seep hunting to the offshore industry, with seep data collection and geochemical analysis projects in the Caribbean and Southeast Asia amongst recent successes.

On stand 104 in the Safari Hall throughout the event, Fugro will also have experts on hand to discuss the range of geotechnical, geoconsulting, survey and subsea services that support Africa’s hydrocarbon industry and help to shape the Continent’s future.
