Fugro launches new remote operations centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

By Eric Van Rees - 28th November 2025 - 05:58

Fugro is strengthening its regional offshore operations through the establishment of a Remote Operations Centre (ROC) in Kuala Lumpur.

The new communications hub will allow Fugro experts to remotely control offshore survey operations, delivering safer, more efficient and more sustainable projects.

The KL ROC will create employment opportunities by allowing some offshore positions to be converted into onshore roles. This shift unlocks the potential to attract a broader, more diverse workforce. Challenges usually associated with offshore roles, such as work-life balance, safety and shiftwork, will gradually ease as more positions open onshore.

Fugro’s investment in the ROC will also result in expanded training capacity. The company can now onboard and develop talent more effectively, as it will be freed from the space constraints of earlier offshore arrangements. By bringing these roles onshore, Fugro can accelerate workforce development while upholding the same high standards of project delivery and operational integrity.

The KL ROC’s setup draws from experience gained from Fugro’s ROC in Perth, Australia – a facility that has set a global benchmark for remote and autonomous operations.
