DSEI Japan – A Landmark Event for Asia-Pacific

By Eric Van Rees - 1st October 2019 - 06:12

DSEI Japan will be the first time that a large-scale, fully integrated defence event has taken place in Japan.

Officially backed by the Japanese Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, DSEI Japan will give attendees invaluable insight into the issues facing security in the Asia-Pacific region and the chance to explore the capabilities supporting defence plans.

In 2019 the Japanese government announced the country’s largest ever defence budget. Spending will rise to $47 billion (JPY5.3 trillion) in 2019 as the country looks to shore up its defences under a five-year plan that will see an overall $240 billion (JPY27 trillion) spent through fiscal year 2023.

The Japanese Self-Defense Force (JSDF) is also undergoing a period of great change. This overhaul is prompted by the loosening of restrictions on the country’s ability to buy and sell defence equipment with foreign countries and external pressures given the nation’s strategic geographic location in a region characterised by increasing tensions. These changes and development plans are opening up huge amounts of opportunity.

With over 250 exhibitors from prime manufacturers to SME’s, attendees will see the very latest equipment on exhibition stands, and in real time action through live demonstrations.

As Japan looks to develop a framework for its domestic defence industry, DSEI Japan will provide a platform to promote its capabilities to the international market.
