Cadcorp launches desktop GIS capability in the cloud

By Eric Van Rees - 8th May 2020 - 07:05

There are many benefits to hosting desktop GIS in the cloud and Cadcorp is offering packages that are flexible to each organisation's IT architecture and requirements.

One significant benefit of using Cadcorp SIS Desktop in the cloud is increased accessibility. It is quick and easy to set up for remote and flexible working as no specialist hardware or resources are required. Users can access SIS Desktop as a virtual desktop application or within a web browser on a variety of platforms, not just Microsoft Windows, and on any device.

The SIS Desktop cloud service is comprehensive and designed to reduce deployment time. It includes support services, cloud storage, a hosted map data service, and an application health check with monitoring resources. SIS Desktop in the cloud integrates with other online services and is maintained and upgraded by Cadcorp to keep it current with the latest software service release.

Cadcorp is offering a cloud migration path for customers to migrate their existing maintained SIS Desktop licences into a cloud hosted and managed environment.

Nick Summers, Technical Services Manager at Cadcorp commented: “We’re delighted to announce the extension to Cadcorp cloud hosted services. In the current situation where GIS professionals are working remotely, accessing software in a cloud environment is ideal. Where GIS technology is housed on-premise, some users may find access slow or limited. Delivering SIS Desktop in the cloud will help organisations restart and maximise productivity.”

Online SIS Desktop training is also available. Courses are instructor-led and there is no need to install Cadcorp software as it is delivered using SIS Desktop in the cloud.

Further details about Cadcorp cloud services are available from the Cadcorp website.
