Avineon Joins Unmanned Systems Association of Virginia (USAV) as a Founding Member

Saint Petersburg, Florida – October 7, 2016 – Avineon, Inc., a successful provider of information technology, geospatial, and engineering support services, today announced its role as a founding member of the Unmanned Systems Association of Virginia (USAV).

USAV is a non-profit coalition formed by a select group of industry leaders in response to a recommendation from Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe’s Unmanned Systems Commission. Its mission is to foster the growth of the unmanned systems industry in Virginia through advocacy efforts focused on economic and workforce development, financial incentives, and a business-friendly regulatory environment.

The association’s key priorities include promoting Virginia’s UAS test site, unmanned systems research, and other resources; sharing information about grant opportunities for expansion of existing businesses or attracting new unmanned systems businesses; supporting legislation that fosters a business environment that is favorable to innovation and development of technology; supporting public and private programs that promote STEM education, workforce training, and workforce development that may be beneficial to the unmanned systems industry; and promoting collaboration among entrepreneurial, existing technology, and academic research entities.

Avineon has more than 24 years of experience in capturing and processing geospatial data, as well as the skills necessary to support integration of that data with other enterprise systems. The company has assisted clients including local governments, large utilities, and defense agencies in the collection, enhancement, and dissemination of geospatial data. As such, Avineon expects to support USAV in addressing the challenges associated with the vast increase in the quantity and timeliness of geospatial data that will result from the advent of unmanned systems.

Avineon’s Vice President of Commercial Systems, Joel Campbell, said, “Avineon is very excited to play such an important role in the USAV. Unmanned systems have extraordinary potential to benefit citizens and generate economic growth nationwide. With this step, USAV, Avineon, and the other founding members place Virginia at the forefront of developing the technological innovations and regulatory framework necessary to realize this potential.”
