Action packed line-up for Ocean Business 2021

By Eric Van Rees - 6th October 2021 - 06:03

Ocean Business 2021, taking place at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, UK, from 12-14 October 2021, is counting down to delivering the biggest ocean technology event this year.

The three-day event is a must attend for anyone working in ocean science and technology who wants to get up to date with the latest from the industry. With 180+ hours of product demos and training on offer, visitors will meet big name companies and industry innovators and get hands-on with the newest equipment. Plus, new to Ocean Business this year, a free innovation and sustainability conference will run throughout the show. That’s not to mention the range of networking and careers opportunities on offer.

Event Director, Cheri Arvonio comments: “We can’t hold back the enthusiasm of exhibitors this year. After the pandemic there’s a real sense of coming together to present latest technologies and innovations. Not only do we have the biggest names in the industry exhibiting, but we’re delighted to welcome a whole host of companies who are exhibiting for the first time.”

Industry leaders in software, data management and marine systems such as Teledyne and Kongsberg Maritime will be present, along with global instrumentation companies such as Valeport, and innovators such as the SAAB Group with their latest underwater robotic solutions on display in a test tank.

Ocean Business is known for its outdoor element, as the unique venue offers access to Southampton Port for waterside demonstrations. Highlights this year include instrumentation and measurement sessions from Chelsea Technologies and Nortek onboard the RV Callista, with further Nortek pre-launch product demos from the comfort of their dockside hospitality suite. Other exciting sessions on the dock include Maritime Robotics’ Otter Pro USV demos, and AAE Technologies and Briggs Marine’s ‘Guardian Class’ survey vessel, who will demonstrate the latest in positioning systems. Another must-see session is Sonardyne’s solutions for autonomous, remote and un-crewed vehicles – all demonstrated at their outside demo zone.

Running over the three days of the show, the innovation and sustainability conference will offer something for everyone, with talks relevant for those working in remote operations, technical R&D, autonomy, data collection, business and quality control, as well as visitors who simply have an interest in the ocean environment. Also back for 2021 is the free wine trail, which offers great networking opportunities with clients, colleagues and new acquaintances. Taking place on Wednesday 13 October from 5-7pm, visitors can join the trail around stands to enjoy delicious wines from around the world.

As well as informal networking, the show will run a ‘B2B matchmaking event’ that offers a chance for potential business and technology partners to meet up. Taking place on Wednesday 13 October, Innovate UK EDGE and Enterprise Europe Network are coordinating business development opportunities between exhibitors and visitors at pre-arranged 20-minute meetings. To sign up for the B2B matchmaking, please visit this website.

Students and career changers visiting the show should head to Ocean Careers, which will be running from 13-14 October to provide advice on career opportunities within the ocean technology, marine science and offshore industries. A series of presentations and one-to-one meetings will be on offer from a wide range of companies and organisations. To see the full programme, please visit this website.

Guy Frankland, Head of Marketing at Valeport echos the sentiment of exhibitors, saying: “We’re very much looking forward to being back on the exhibition floor, eager to showcase our portfolio and hear from our industry connections again. We’ve definitely missed the key industry events like Ocean Business. We’ve always found these in-person events invaluable on a number of levels; not only to engage and strengthen relationships with contacts, but importantly to actively listen to feedback. The reactions and views shared with us at Ocean Business and other events are fundamental in our new product development strategy.”
