UK’s Leading Cartographic Societies Join for Second Year

8 June 2016 - Registration is now open for the BCS - SoC Conference 2016 for all involved in the creation and use of maps. For a second year the UK’s leading cartographic societies have joined forces following an incredibly successful event last year that saw more than 160 delegates attend.

The event, taking place from 6 - 8 September 2016 at Cheltenham Park Hotel, Cheltenham, combines the very best that both the British Cartographic Society (BCS) and the Society of Cartography (SoC) have to offer in leading and developing a community of cartographers and users.

The theme for this year is “Mapping at the Edge” and will provide delegates with the opportunity to gain mapping knowledge through a wide range of presentations, interactive workshops and poster sessions.

Programme highlights include:

  • inspirational talks on mapping-related topics
  • broad choice of workshops
  • supporting exhibition
  • guest speaker from the British Library
  • gala dinner and award ceremonies
  • networking opportunities

The 2016 event is kindly sponsored by Victoria Litho, Esri UK, United Kingdom Hydrographic Office, Ordnance Survey, Collins Bartholomew, 1Spatial, Europa Technologies, Philip’s and Global Mapping and is organised by the GeoAware team (Events division of The GeoInformation Group).

GeoAware’s Linda Baron, member of the organising team, commented how “We were really pleased with the positive feedback we received after last year’s joint event as well as the high volume of delegates who attended, which only indicates the huge interest in this industry.”

All mapmakers, map users and other cartographic enthusiasts are invited to attend the event.

Further information on the conference programme and how to register can be found at www.mapedge.tk. A 15% early-bird discount applies to all registrations received by 20 July 2016.
