Sensera’s wholly owned subsidiary nanotron and Protran Technology (Protran) sign volume supply agreement to integrate nanotron’s smart sensor modules into Protran’s Roadway Worker Protection solution
  • Nanotron-enabled detection and collision warning systems from Protran alert work crews and train operators of impending potentially life-threatening hazards
  • Protran is a leading technology provider in the railway industry, offering secondary warning systems as a line of defence against potential human error, warning equipment operators of hazards before they become accidents

Berlin, Germany, September 25, 2018 – Sensera Limited (ASX: SE1, “Sensera” or “the Company”), an Internet of Things (IoT) solution provider that delivers sensor-based products transforming real-time data into meaningful information, action and value, is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary nanotron Technologies GmbH and Protran Technology (Protran), a Harsco Rail company, have signed a volume supply agreement that is set to help improve the safety of workers in the railway industry.

Protran Technology is an industry leader and pioneer in Secondary Advanced Warning technology for the railroad industry for ensuring worker safety. It manufactures electronic safety systems for Enhanced Employee Protection, HY-RAIL Limits Compliance, and Train Approach Warning systems.

Protran has integrated nanotron’s swarm bee LE product, a smart RF sensor module, into its Roadway Worker Protection solution. The Protran solution issues secondary advanced warnings alerting personnel working on or around railway tracks to potentially hazardous situations such as approaching trains. It consists of Protran’s range of Protracker, Portable Train Detection and Collision Avoidance products.

This proven solution offers high resolution detection up to a range of 300 meters for collision avoidance between personnel, vehicles and work site limits. With Protracker, the train operator is audibly and visually alerted to the presence of workers wearing the Protracker Personal Alert Device (PAD) located in the vicinity of the train tracks. An additional layer of safety is provided by PADs and Portable Warning Light/Horns (PWLHs) positioned at trackside locations that communicate in real time with the device onboard the train, signaling the approaching train to work crews on the track.

Swarm bee LE (low energy) is built on nanotron’s Chirp Spread Spectrum 2.4GHz radio technology, a proven long-range lightweight proximity warning system. It provides accurate, reliable distance and location information at ranges of up to 500 meters. It has an integrated MEMS sensor for detecting 3D acceleration and temperature.

Dr Jens Albers, CEO at nanotron, said:
"Nanotron is proud to provide further support to Protran in the deployment of its innovative light-weight, long-range and ultra-fast proximity warning system, that promises to keep workers safe in hazardous life-threatening railway environments."

Jim Resio, VP at Protran Technology, said:
"Protran warning systems have been successfully deployed throughout the US and Canada, and have demonstrably reduced accidents and fatalities in the railway industry. Nanotron's technology is an integral component of our system."
