BELGIUM, Leuven: Luciad, a world leader in the provision of technology that connects geospatial data to deliver real-time situational awareness, has won the 2016 Geospatial World Innovation Award for its 3D situational awareness app for browsers.

The accolade for exemplary usage of geospatial tools in various industries was awarded to Luciad on May 25 at a gala dinner at Geospatial World Forum, Rotterdam, 2016 (www.geospatialworldforum.org).

Luciad CEO Marc Melviez said, “We are honored to win a Geospatial World Excellence Award for this development. LuciadRIA and its new 3D capability brings a new dimension to the web for real-time tracking of moving objects. We believe this technology will help drive the future of web applications for big data, IoT, smart cities and many other visualization and analysis tools.”

LuciadRIA software enables the development of intuitive browser applications using advanced web-based technologies. Luciad announced the 3D capability in 2015 with an app that allows users to view global flight traffic data (3d.luciad.com). More than 60,000 people have downloaded the app, which Fortune Magazine and Gizmodo called “pretty staggering” and “bewilderingly addictive.”

Traditionally such applications were only available to specialist users in demanding industries such as aviation and defense. And they needed to run on powerful desktop computers. This award winning solution runs efficiently on any device and allows any user to view data in an engaging and instinctive way. Its application extends to tracking any object in transit such as vehicles, pallets, packages and mobile phones.
