Horizon 2020 project LARA consortium who is developing a mobile device to assist the utility management professionals on the field launched a first system pilot.

Partners of the European GNSS Agency’s partially funded project LARA had the opportunity to test and assess the performance of the integrated system in Thessaloniki and Kozani, Greece from the 14th to 21st of September 2016. The Horizon 2020 project LARA consortium, after calibrating and testing the individual system modules in the premises of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, moved to the nearby city of Kozani, to conduct the first pilot of the system in real-life conditions. LARA partners navigated to the area selected for the pilot and took measurements using the GNSS based system verifying the system’s accuracy as well as responsiveness to an urban area with given locations of buried assets such as water, sewerage and heating pipelines.

The results of the first pilot were very promising and provided valuable feedback on the current strengths and weaknesses of the system, setting a concrete strategy to deliver a fully functioning system by the beginning of 2017.

LARA project will be present at the VSMM 2016 Conference in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia between 17 and 21 October 10/2016 organizing the "Special Session: LBS Augmented Reality Systems for Utilities Infrastructure Management".
