Getech heads into Orbit as Planet partner

By Eric Van Rees - 4th September 2023 - 06:44

Getech, a locator of subsurface resources, has signed an agreement with Planet, a provider of daily global satellite imagery and geospatial solutions, to join its “Orbit” partner programme.

Becoming a Planet partner enables Getech to access Planet’s wealth of earth observation intelligence for use in its data-led geoenergy exploration projects across various sectors including mineral exploration, geothermal, and transitional petroleum, to locate and develop new sources of energy and minerals.

Getech plans to leverage the Planet data to accelerate execution and/or reduce costs for clients looking to decarbonise their operations. Additionally, applying its advanced analytics to process and use satellite data and derivatives allows the company to create new, innovative solutions to locate energy and mineral resources.

Chris Jepps, Getech COO, commented: “We are pleased to be joining the Orbit partner programme. Adding Planet’s cutting-edge earth observation data to Getech’s existing geoenergy databases and to Globe – our ‘digital-twin’ of Earth’s evolution through geologic time – allows us to extend our data-led analysis solutions for locating new low-carbon energy and critical mineral resources.”

Planet, a provider of daily global satellite imagery and geospatial solutions, was founded by three NASA scientists in 2010. The company operates the largest fleet of Earth observation imaging satellites, capturing over 30 TB of data per day. Planet has been Getech’s customer for the past two years.

Through its geospatial software development expertise, Getech has enhanced the desktop geographic information system (GIS) application through which Planet’s data is made available to ArcGIS users.
