Delegation from the emirate of Ajman visit Karlsruhe

The guests from the emirate of Ajman were warmly welcomed by the PTV Group

Karlsruhe, 14.02.2017. The Ajman city council delegates visited Karlsruhe from 5 to 10 February. Numerous technical workshops with PTV Group transport experts, a visit to the Mobility Labs at the PTV head office and meetings with both Dr. Frank Mentrup, Lord Mayor of Karlsruhe, and Margret Mergen, Lord Mayor of Baden-Baden were all on the agenda. A visit to the Karlsruhe Transport Authority (KVV) traffic control centre was also part of the extensive programme of visits for the delegation.

"Ajman has singled out PTV Group software solutions for the planning and optimisation of their transport system. It is a great pleasure and an honour for me to now welcome the members of the delegation here, at the PTV Group head office in Karlsruhe," said Dr.-Ing. Thomas Schwerdtfeger, PTV MENA manager who welcomed the delegation at the PTV Group in Karlsruhe. PTV was commissioned to provide both software and training for the transport project in August 2016. The PTV team has also been supporting the city council employees during the implementation process.

Ajman is one of seven emirates belonging to the federation of the United Arab Emirates. The state has an area of 260 square kilometres and is named after the city of Ajman which is also the seat of government. The emirate has a population of almost 300,000 and is ruled by Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi.

Urban and transport planning in the emirate of Ajman

The Ajman city council and planning authority was founded in 1968. It is responsible for the overall city planning, the procedures for granting planning approval and arranging planning permission, and for developing the transport network, the city infrastructure, agriculture and public parks. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi has been the Ajman city council and planning authority Chairman since 2005.

Visit to Karlsruhe

The engineers Ali Malallah Al Shehhi (Director of Planning and Survey Department), Mohammed Ahmed Abdulrazaq Al Awadhi (Director of Roads and Infrastructure Department) and Eyaas Jamal Abdel Aal (Project Leader) were all part of the delegation sent by the Ajman city council. The agenda included meeting the Lord Mayors of Karlsruhe and Baden-Baden, as well as attending numerous technical workshops with transport experts from the PTV Group. The programme of visits scheduled for the delegation included visits to both the Karlsruhe Transport Authority (KVV) traffic control centre and the new PTV Group Mobility Lab for the Karlsruhe region, among other items.
