Cables and sewers: cross-sector line management with BaSYS

By [email protected] - 15th March 2017 - 10:06

Going forward, sewer network operators are obligated to take the DigiNetzG into account during planning and operation. The sewer management software that is used must be able to map and manage the changes. In its current version, the BaSYS network information system already constitutes a cross-sector solution for planners and operators.

The act to facilitate the development and expansion of high-speed digital networks (DigiNetzG) has entered into force. The act is aimed at achieving synergies in broadband expansion in particular through the shared use of passive infrastructure such as sewers. Experts estimate the savings resulting from the DigiNetzG to be in the billions. It significantly lowers the cost of network operators and accelerates the network connection of regions without adequate service. But citizens also benefit. Costly and protracted duplication of work on roads and the associated economic losses due to traffic jams and loss of productivity can be avoided to a much greater extent in the future as the ability to coordinate construction work is also improved

BARTHAUER provides solutions for multidisciplinary line management with the BaSYS network and infrastructure information system. It offers modules for planning, data collection, administration and documentation, operations management and maintenance, rehabilitation design and asset management for infrastructure assets. The joint administration of control, broadband, fibre optics and energy cables in conjunction with networks in other sectors, such as sewer networks, has been realised by implementing a dedicated cable module. Here the routeing of lines is possible through the conduits of the sewer sections in the sewer module. The assignment of the disposal lines eliminates the need for time-consuming digitalisation of the alignment sections. Outputting the documented information from the system in cross-sector subject schedules for dissemination or informational purposes is made possible using industry standard exchange formats and adaptable data interfaces. This gives all participants access to the same information depth, as the required information is available transparently and can be exchanged quickly. Thus, Infrastructure planning, network administration and cooperation between sewer network operators and telecommunication companies is not only facilitated but also made more efficient as a result.

Jürgen Barthauer, managing director of BARTHAUER, summarises: “Cross-sector cooperation is a key for the future-proof expansion and maintenance of infrastructure networks. The essential prerequisites such as transparency and openness of the systems have been part of our company philosophy from the outset, and constitute an important benefit for the day-to-day business of our customers. Against the background of better coordination and the future-proof operation of infrastructure facilities, BARTHAUER has continued the further development of the BaSYS network information system into a comprehensive infrastructure management system over the last few years.”
