UK aerial mapping company boosts business development with new recruits

Aerial mapping company Bluesky has expanded its commercial team with the appointment of Robert Carling to the position of Senior Business Development Manager. Carling, a seasoned business development professional in the geospatial sector, has more than 15 years’ experience in developing and delivering data, technology and software solutions to the legal, mortgage, residential surveying, insurance and property sectors.

Carling joins Bluesky from natural hazard modelling provider, JBA Risk Management, where he held the position of Technical Director – Business Development, responsible for new business development, account and channel management, and product development. Prior to joining JBA, Carling held senior positions with Landmark Information Group (a Daily Mail and General Trust Company) and the Ordnance Survey. He started his career as an Environmental Scientist at the Coal Research Establishment, working on a range of air quality projects.

"This is an exciting time to be joining Bluesky as it celebrates 21 years of trading and moves into its new corporate headquarters," said Carling. "It is also an exciting time for geographic data, with new products being launched to market and the next generation of exciting applications."

George Dey also joins the Bluesky team in the position of Sales Executive, where he will concentrate on commercialising Bluesky’s advanced geographic data solutions in a range of vertical markets. Dey is a driven sales professional, and joins the Bluesky Sales team from Sytner Group, the UK’s largest motor dealership by revenue, where he started his career.

“Following a period of significant investment in equipment and R&D projects, which has resulted in the launch to market of some exciting geospatial solutions, it was time to back this up with appointments to the commercial team,” commented Rachel Tidmarsh, Managing Director of Leicestershire based Bluesky. “Robert and George will play important roles, working with both existing and new customers in the UK and overseas.”

Bluesky is expert in the capture of remotely sensed data and the production of innovative geographic data products. Bluesky launched to market the first ever detailed National Tree Map, is leading a Government funded project to investigate the potential of mobile phones for capturing accurate 3D spatial information, and has a joint venture company with the University of Leicester – working to develop solutions for air quality mapping. In addition, Bluesky is a supplier of geographic data to UK Central Government organisations under the multi-million pound (APGB) contract.
