The UK membership organisation for companies and individuals working in the geospatial sector, the Association for Geographic Information (AGI), will take centre stage at GEO Business next month.
The two-day event, which takes place on the 17-18th May at the ExCel London, will host 120 global brands and cutting-edge start-ups. The AGI will be presenting two main stage sessions, bringing together industry experts to explore the topic of ‘Professional Competency’ and presenting the results from a survey which posed the question ‘Is there a geospatial skills recruitment issue?’.
The AGI will also have a presence on the show floor and will be supporting its member organisations Bluesky International, Esri UK, NV5 Geospatial, Spyrosoft, the Coal Authority and Verisk who are exhibiting and 1Spatial, Atkins, British Geological Survey, Idox Group and Ordnance Survey who are also presenting.

An integral part of the GEO Business Education Programme, the AGI will be presenting not just one but two sessions. Hosted by AGI Communications Lead, Richard Flemmings, the first session will take place on the main stage at 1500 on the 17th May. Under the title ‘Navigating Professional Competency – Why, Who and How?’, Richard will bring together panel members from Royal Geographical Society with IBG (RGS-IBG), Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES), British Computer Society (BCS) and Institute of Royal Engineers (InstRE) to explore routes to professional development pathways and accreditation.
The second session will present the results of an AGI survey which asked ‘Is there a skills recruitment issue within the geospatial profession?’. Drawing responses from the Association’s 2,000 members, who represent more than 500 organisations, active in every aspect of the geospatial sector and at all stages of their professional careers, the session will highlight the experiences of those trying to recruit for roles ranging from ‘apprentice’ positions to ‘consultant’ titles. This session, which also takes place on the main stage at 1200 on the 18th May, will be hosted by Ian Maxwell and Anne Robertson of the AGI’s Education and Skills Working Group.
