Antalya is the 5th largest city in Turkey, the water utility, ASAT, was also one of the very first utilities in Turkey to adopt Radix products back in 1994. Antalya has around 1 million people spread over a 30 kilometre stretch of Mediterranean coast line. ASAT, the water authority for Antalya, provides fresh, sanitised water to the domestic, commercial and tourism markets.
Most of the water is supplied by ASAT comes from one well, which delivers a staggering 85% of total output. This is distributed to customers though ASAT's massive network of pipes and ends up being divided amongst some 350,000 customers water meters, consuming approximately 60,000,000 litres of water per year.Antalya is home to some of the best tourist resorts in the whole of Turkey and in excess of 35, 5 star hotels with each of them using an average of 20,000 m3 of water per year12 years ago ASAT chose Radix' handheld units for 62 of its meter reading field staff to read, on a monthly basis, the 350,000 consumers meters and generate an "on-the-spot" invoice that the customer can then take to the nearest post office to pay.The initial equipment (FW60 with FP40 mobile printers) are now in the process of being replaced with the newer FW700 WinCE Handhelds complete with wireless printing on a separate wireless enabled FP40 BT (Bluetooth) rugged printer. This system benefits from the reliability and ruggedness of the tough radix devices. With low maintenance and minimum down time costs, for both the data collection (in this case reading the meters), and the printing of the invoice / bill.Ease of use and simple operation greatly reduces training and staff costs, thanks to the simple and powerful software interfaces and ergonomic keyboards, which are designed specifically for the job / country / language. With the added benefits & cost saving of reduced staffing levels for data entry and more accurate data due to less human error, which ASAT realized immediately. Another underestimated benefit for ASAT was the speed at which the information could be transferred in to the companies proprietary software enabled superior data analysis, risk assessment and future planning.
