From the joy and unity on display at the Rio Olympics, to the tragedy of the Syrian refugee crisis, 2016 was a year that saw both the best and the worst of humanity. DigitalGlobe’s constellation of five high-resolution imaging satellites had a front-row seat for virtually every global event of importance, and today we are releasing 20 of the most iconic satellite images from 2016.

Westminster, Colorado-based DigitalGlobe is the global leader in earth imagery and information about our changing planet. Our satellites made more than 20,000 laps around the globe in 2016, collecting nearly 1 billion square kilometers of the world’s highest-resolution, most accurate commercial satellite imagery.
