eMapSite to demo the power of online mapping at XCES technology expo

eMapSite is partnering with survey giant Leica Geosystems to show visitors at the forthcoming XCES event how web mapping can reduce the costs of site investigation and data sharing.

OS MasterMap hosted on an eMapSite server will be demonstrated on Leica Geosystems’ industry-leading System 1200 total stations, giving surveying professionals an insight into how to streamline workflows and increase onsite productivity with minimal investment.

Visitors to the eMapSite stand (29) can also enter a free prize draw with the chance to win a year’s free subscription to Leica SmartNet, the UK and Ireland’s largest and most comprehensive GNSS Network RTK service.

SmartNet provides an RTK and DGNSS correction service for any professional with any make of GNSS (GPS & GLONASS) receiver that can accept RTK or DGNSS corrections broadcast by GSM, GPRS or even UHF radio. Licences are not limited to the SIM card; therefore, users can employ multiple rovers with one single licence, as long as there is only one connection at a time. The unlimited licence package is worth £2,000.

As well as stand demonstrations, eMapSite will present a workshop on how mapping on the internet can aid desktop site investigation. The session will show how cost management can be improved by an online approach to desktop preparation, pricing, feasibility, site access and on-the-ground survey.

“Downloading pre-formatted Ordnance Survey data into survey equipment in seconds not only gives you a useful mapping context,” says Daniel Slater, eMapSite’s Head of Sales. “It also gives you the basis for uploading survey information that you can share online with project partners and publish to clients.”

Lawrence Dixon, Sales Manager at Leica Geosystems, says: “We see a growing demand for online mapping solutions to help support the collection, storage and sharing of survey information and provide a cost-effective means of integrating it with GIS software.”

XCES (Exhibition for Construction and Engineering Surveying) takes place at York Racecourse on 22-23 April 2009. The event is designed to showcase the latest surveying, mapping and imagery technology with specialisms including GIS, photogrammetry, remote sensing, hydrographic survey and GNSS. XCES is organised by SURCO Limited, the trading company of the Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors.
