Yotta DCL maps Milton Keynes highways with road scanner

Oxford, 08 November 2007 - Yotta DCL Limited, the highway surveying specialists, has won a contract worth GBP 70,000 (US$ 140,000) with Milton Keynes Council. The 2-year contract with an option to extend a further year provides the Council with automated surface condition surveys using Yotta DCL's
leading-edge ARAN SCANNER vehicle and coarse and detailed visual inspections for a
network totalling 1300km.

The Council operates a very successful PPP (Public Private Partnership) with HBS Business Services Ltd, a leading provider of support services to local government and private sector, which procures and manages Yotta DCL's specialist services on behalf of Milton Keynes Council. Yotta DCL's independent input helps to support the Council's compliance with new Best Value Performance
Indicator (BVPI) requirements for maintenance and asset management programmes.

Yotta DCL performs SCANNER (Surface Condition Assessment for the National Network of Roads) surveys on all principal and non-principal classified roads using its innovative ARAN (Automatic Road Analyzer) scanning vehicle. The vehicle is equipped with an advanced surface laser scanner that captures profile
data with its precise location.

Using the SCANNER data, Gary Morland, assistant Engineer, for Asset Data Management, HBS, is able to calculate defect lengths in the Condition Bands and then apply relevant treatments. By applying treatments this way helps Milton Keynes Council understand what the total cost of repair is to the Highways
network thus allowing them to target resources for treating the various defects
including pothole repairs, surface treatments or complete resurfacing.

Milton Keynes has approximately 800km of unclassified roads that are subject to CVI surveys by Yotta DCL, working over 3 years to complete. As the total Category 1 and 2 footway length is relatively short - 27km - the company performs DVIs annually.
