Welsh Assembly Government Adopts the NLPG

The Welsh Assembly Government has chosen to license the NLPG (National Land and Property Gazetteer) as its source of property information forthcoming Planning Application registration and tracking system. The decision was taken as it was felt that only the NLPG could provide the accuracy and depth of national coverage as well as the reliability required.

Local Authorities have a statutory duty to inform the Welsh Assembly Government of any planning applications that could affect the trunk road network. The Assembly can then choose to make comments and recommendations on the application based on the perceived consequences. The Assembly have a steady stream of planning applications which need to be recorded, tracked and processed. These planning applications are, typically, referenced to an address and a National Grid reference but, to enable the identification of repeat or duplicate applications, they need to be normalised to a standard form of property address now provided by the NLPG.

The Planning Application registration and tracking system is an extension to TRAMS (Trunk Road Agents Management System) a hosted and managed solution provided by Exor Corporation to the Welsh Assembly Government. The extension will replace paper based processes which previously left all the data in one inaccessible data silo in Cardiff. By using the NLPG as the common reference source this data is now available to all users of the system accessed by both the Assembly and its Agents via the web.

Use of the NLPG is growing. Created by Local Authorities to improve efficiency, save money and improve service delivery, the NLPG is now in use across the whole of England and Wales as the primary source of address information.
