In a UK first Landmark’s Promap will now offer The GeoInformation Group’s UKMap®, a new large scale mapping product providing customers with an alternative to Ordnance Survey.
The initial roll-out offers 1:1000 large scale topographic mapping for the London area, and was created from highly detailed aerial photography and information gathered by field workers. With a positional accuracy of one metre, UKMap shows buildings, garages, property boundaries, roads and trees. Supplementary information includes building heights, land use and feature types, names and indicative road marks, providing a convenient way for industry professionals to access a range of information.
While UKMap covers Greater London at present, a three year completion plan is in place and UKMap aims to deliver 568 towns, cities and urban areas across the UK, covering 24,000 sqkm and 55 per cent of the UK population. To ensure that currency is maintained on-going updates will be made on a quarterly basis and all areas will be re-flown every three years.
The maps have been verified by an independent GPS ground survey, and UKMap is valid for the purposes of planning applications as it meets the criteria set out in Local Authority guidelines.
David Dixon, Managing Director at Landmark Property, commented: “We believe it is important to offer our customers as much choice as possible, and have included UKMap in Promap to ensure that we can continue to meet this need. Our customers will now be able to access both UKMap and Ordnance Survey maps simply and quickly.
“What’s more, our exclusive access to the UKMap topographic layer will enable us to offer for the next five years an enhanced service to view, print, and export user specific sites from UKMap instantly, ensuring Landmark is the only company able to offer this greater choice in one straightforward service.”
Dr Alan Jones at UKMap added: “We offer accurate topographical mapping, and our simple licensing approach covers derived data and dating sharing. We believe we represent a good value alternative to Ordnance Survey and look forward to working with Promap to deliver increased choice to its customers.”
