THE AA TURNS TO TELE ATLAS FOR MAPPING AND ROUTING DATA IN THE UK AND EUROPE
Tele Atlas, a leading global provider of digital maps and dynamic content for navigation and location-based solutions, has won the contract to provide the UK and Pan-European mapping and routing data used by the Automobile Association’s online routing resource, AA Route Planner.
The Tele Atlas data enables AA Route Planner to provide routes in GB to virtually every single road, village, town and city as well as nearly 40,000 places/points of interest ranging from sporting venues to hotels.
“Mapping and routing has evolved considerably since AA Route Planner was launched in 1999,” says Steve Wing at the AA. “Users are demanding greater accuracy, more functionality and more features than ever before. The AA Route Planner generates in excess of 3.5 million routes per week and this success stems from the accurate routing and mapping data provided by TeleAtlas.
Additional signposting information is also added by the AA creating the most detailed yet clearest driving directions on the market. Furthermore we have built a successful B2B business around the AA Route Planner and the TeleAtlas data will enable us to grow this further.”
He continues: “This is not the first time we have worked with Tele Atlas. Tele Atlas has been providing our recovery vehicle teams with routing and mapping information since 2001, and during that time the AA has won the award for the quickest response time to a roadside incident, so we know its data is incredibly accurate.”
Allan Rasmussen, UK database operations manger, Tele Atlas comments:
“We have a long-standing relationship with the AA and it is encouraging to see that partnership extend to other areas. Key to this
deal was the strength of our partnership network. By partnering with best-of-breed content providers, such as Ordnance Survey in the UK, we can be sure that we are offering our customers very accurate, rich and fresh digital maps across Europe.”
The Automobile Association was founded in 1905 and is the UK's largest motoring organisation with 15 million members. Its dedicated patrol force attends approximately 3.5 million breakdowns a year and recently came top in Which? magazine’s breakdown assistance survey. Today, the AA's support for its members stretches far beyond the core range of breakdown services. The AA represents the views and interests of its members and other road users, working with the Government, police, road safety organisations and numerous other groups and individuals to help guide policy and shape the motoring agenda.

Flooding costs associated with extreme weather, both financial and emotional, have increased considerably over the last decade, and experts have predicted this trend is set to continue.
Paul Livett, Chairman of GroundSure looks into how increasing the use of flood risk information in property transactions can help to ensure both residential and commercial transactions are conducted on a truly informed basis, with buyers being made aware of environmental risks prior to purchase.
Over 2.2 million homes and small businesses in the UK are located in areas considered at risk of flooding, and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said that 570,000 of these face a high risk of flooding. The floods in June and July last year left approximately 48,000 households… More…
