Dr James Smith, Chairman of Shell UK, has been announced as a keynote speaker at a major University of Aberdeen event next month.

Dr Smith will provide his insights into the future of the energy industry and oil prices at Innovate with Aberdeen, which takes place on September 18 at Elphinstone Hall, King’s College, University of Aberdeen.

Dr Smith, who received an honorary degree from the University last month, will discuss his views on how the energy industry will evolve in the next fifty years at the event’s Evening Keynote Session and Question Time.

Professor of Petroleum Economics, Alex Kemp will also take part in the session, outlining the range of factors affecting the global oil and gas and economy in the current and future climate.

The event marks the third in the popular Innovate with Aberdeen series which highlights the groundbreaking technologies and pioneering research being conducted at the institute.

Taking the themes of Energy, Health & Nutrition and Policy, an array of exhibitions, sessions and talks will take place throughout the day.

The Evening Keynote Session and Question Time is open to members of the public. Those registering for the event will be invited to submit a question to be answered by the keynote speakers during the session.

Professor Dominic Houlihan, Vice Principal for Research and Commercialisation at the University said: “Innovate at Aberdeen provides an exclusive opportunity to showcase the world leading research which is being carried out by experts at the University of Aberdeen.

“The event provides an occasion for members of the business community, technologists, policy makers and influencers to network and discover more about the potential commercial investment and collaborative opportunities which are available with the University.

“We are delighted to announce Dr Smith as one of the eminent speakers taking part in the event’s Evening Keynote Session and Question Time. We are confident that the insights and opinions Dr Smith provides on the highly topical subject of the current position of the energy industry and oil prices, will be a significant highlight of the day’s proceedings.”
