SeaZone GeoTemporal Monitors Port Development

SeaZone GeoTemporal Monitors Port Development

Software from SeaZone is being used to monitor the impact of dredging activities taking place as part of a major new port development project in the UK. Selected by Titan Environmental Surveys, SeaZone GeoTemporal has been used to manage the vast volumes of raw data collected to form a baseline model and to analyse changes in water quality as the dredging campaign progresses. The software is helping the development company minimise disruption and control the environmental impact of their activities.

Titan were commissioned to undertake the collection of baseline monitoring data for the port development area, including wave, tide and current conditions, sediment levels and other key water quality parameters in relation to seasonal, tidal and non-tidal contributing factors. This data was then used as benchmark against which additional measurements were compared over the course of a full seasonal cycle. In order to complete the ongoing monitoring project Titan deployed a diverse array of oceanographic current meters, wave gauges and other water sensors in a variety of locations around the port.

“SeaZone GeoTemporal has helped us meet the project objectives in a timely and cost effective way,” commented John Taylor, Operations Manager, Oceanography at Titan Environmental Surveys. “The software allows data to be downloaded from the survey instruments at each monthly service interval, imported, quality controlled, analysed and presented as data reports to the client with a rapid turnaround and consistent approach maintained throughout the duration of the project.”

“We considered a number of options before selecting SeaZone GeoTemporal,” continued Taylor, “including existing ‘off the shelf’ products and in house software development but nothing came close to the functionality and ease of use offered by GeoTemporal. We are now rolling out the software to other client projects and the majority of our routine processing and reporting tasks.”

SeaZone GeoTemporal has been specifically designed to quality control, analyse and present complex survey and environmental monitoring data, commonplace in the marine many organisations and projects. GeoTemporal provides the means to import specialist data into a common GIS environment, allowing access to advanced query, manipulation and dissemination tools and making information easily accessible across project teams and organisations.
