Pitney Bowes Business Insight announced as first provider of Scottish Qualifications Authority Award for Road Works Administration
Innovative course responds to recommendations contained in Transport (Scotland) Act 2005
Pitney Bowes Business Insight (PBBI), a global provider of location and communication intelligence software, data and services, today announces that it is the first organisation to have been approved to deliver the Scottish Qualifications Authority’s Customised Award in Road Works Administration (SQA Award No. G8LG 04).
The unique five day course has been developed to respond to the need of councils, road authorities and utility companies to comply with legislation set out in the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 and the Transport (Scotland) Act 2005.
“PBBI is delighted to be the first organisation approved to deliver the SQA Customised Award in Road Works Administration.” said Ross Baillie, Product Consultant, Pitney Bowes Business Insight. “The course has been designed to ensure the competence of employees responsible for the planning, design and delivery of road works in Scotland. As leaders in infrastructure asset management, we are well placed to deliver this accredited course to the highways community and proud to be the first to do so!”
“I am pleased that Pitney Bowes Business Insight has been approved as the first organisation to deliver this important course,” commented John Gooday, Scottish Road Works Commissioner. “The Transport (Scotland) Act of 2005 introduced a duty on road authorities and utility companies to ensure the general competence of employees. The course has been designed to reflect the key issues of importance outlined by the act and the completion of the course is a formal indication of such competence.”
The course comprises six units covering all aspects of road works delivery:
- SQA Unit F20J 04 - Legislation
- SQA Unit F20E 04 - Training
- SQA Unit F20F 04 - Safety and Inspections
- SQA Unit F20G 04 - Co-ordination
- SQA Unit F20H 04 – Finance
- SQA Unit F20K 04 - Notice and Registrations
The SQA course is relevant to managers, planners, designers, operatives and anyone who is involved with road and street works processes within roads authorities, statutory undertakers, utility companies and sub-contractors.
