Wildgoose, leading suppliers of education resources, has released a highly topical classroom resource to support the teaching of Geography at Key Stage 3. The education pack, ‘Crime’ contains structured lesson plans and student exercises together with highly detailed aerial photography, Ordnance Survey maps and real-world crime statistics from the UK Home Office. ‘Crime’ is priced at £19.99 and features alongside an extensive range of other topical teaching resources in the newly published Wildgoose Secondary catalogue. The pack is also available to purchase online with a 5% discount at www.wildgoose.ac.
“Crime and the fear of crime are a growing concern amongst teenagers; you only have to listen to the radio, watch the television or pick up a paper to understand the impact it is having on our children and schools,” said Kathryn Lucas, Education Business Manager at Wildgoose. “By helping them to learn about the types of crime, where it occurs and the impact on both the individual and the wider community in the safety of the classroom, we hope to give a greater understanding of the factors affecting crime and ways to prevent it.”
The Wildgoose ‘Crime’ teaching pack contains four individual lesson plans addressing the issues of ‘What is crime?’, ‘How is it reported?’, ‘Costs to the community’ and ‘Who pays?’. The structured lesson plans are supported by exercises designed to help pupils identify areas where crimes might occur, look at the local factors that may influence the location of criminal activities and identify crime prevention methods on a given budget. The pack also contains highly detailed aerial photography and Ordnance Survey mapping of specific locations to help with the identification of features on the ground that may impact on the geography of crime (for example, alleyways, open spaces and unlit streets), plus real-world crime statistics from the UK Home Office. The pack is designed to support teaching of unit 15 – Crime and the Local Community at Key Stage 3.
Wildgoose has been providing resources for education for over 11 years and has grown into one of the UK’s leading publishers of geographical teaching aids. Wildgoose is a member of the British Educational Suppliers Association and a registered content provider for the Curriculum Online scheme.
