NAVTEQ Transport™ Guides More And More Heavy...

NAVTEQ Transport™ Guides More And More Heavy Vehicles Across Europe

Increasing number of applications adopting specialist truck routing dataset

NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of digital map, traffic and location data for in-vehicle, portable, wireless and enterprise solutions has confirmed that its specialist NAVTEQ Transport data is being integrated into an increasing number of applications and devices.

Now available for 25 European countries* NAVTEQ Transport provides the transportation and logistics industries with accurate truck-specific attributes and content which can be used in a range of applications such as routing, fleet optimisation and navigation. This range of data includes legal, height, width, weight, hazardous materials and time or date restrictions plus warnings about upcoming sharp bends or steep hills and also specialist points of interest.

With NAVTEQ Transport, fleet operators and drivers can generate more efficient routes for their vehicles and lower operating costs. The data can be combined with other NAVTEQ content – Driver Alert; NAVTEQ Traffic™; Curvature, Slope and Height; Extended Lanes; Fuel Types etc – to produce a complete truck package.

Available applications

Some of the world’s best-known companies in the PND, wireless and enterprise spaces have integrated NAVTEQ Transport into their devices or applications. Commercially available options include:

NAVIGON Truck Navigation
Available for download to the NAVIGON 8410 and 6310, this application calculates the best route for HGVs, delivery vans and motorhomes based on the height, width, length, weight and axle load of the vehicle type. Legal restrictions, date and time restrictions as well as three classes of hazardous goods are also taken into consideration for the appropriate route calculation.

The service will also navigate the way to over 16,000 additional points of interest, such as filling stations, 24 hour shops or HGV washes. Additionally 20 different profiles can be easily installed, copied and stored. Available for 20 European countries at www.navigon.com .

PTV map&guide professional
A long established name in lorry routing and optimisation, PTV has integrated NAVTEQ Transport data into its map&guide professional route planner. Features and functions include a programming interface, truck restrictions, lorry specific routing, guided navigation and editable truck attributes. Available for 43 countries and in 19 languages.

Telogis Route
This application is a powerful, scalable tool for both strategic and tactical resource planning. Accurate truck-specific routing is crucial to Telogis’ customers who are seeking the most cost-efficient routes for safe navigation. Whether planning weekly routes or responding to an emergency, finding the most direct route given vehicle size, weight and hazmat restrictions is extremely important.

For the future…
“We are firmly focused on the future and working towards the integration of the dynamic information needed by the transportation industry to support even more intelligent routing. For example, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) attributes such as curve and slope will offer even more precision and the addition of new truck-specific POI categories will help the driver both in and out of the cab,” commented Bruno Bourguet, NAVTEQ senior vice president sales EMEA.”

Rollout plans will continue and include a balance of global country count with relevant local coverage. The objective is to support both competitive long-haul business and offer short-haul advantages in the most densely populated areas.
