NAVTEQ Announces Real-Time Traffic in the United Kingdom

Comprehensive traffic solution now delivers uninterrupted data to 13 European countries

NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of digital map, traffic and location data for in-vehicle, portable, wireless and enterprise solutions, announced the launch of NAVTEQ Traffic™ in the United Kingdom, increasing its real-time traffic European coverage to nearly 400,000 kilometres of total coverage, across nearly 35 major cities in 13 European countries.

For the U.K., NAVTEQ Traffic delivers comprehensive, real-time traffic information to major cities, including Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London and Manchester, encompassing more than 10.5 million people in the United Kingdom. It includes data from Trafficmaster’s network of 7,500 traffic sensors, covering 8,000 miles of U.K. motorways and 95 percent of its trunk or arterial roads. In addition, NAVTEQ is extending coverage and quality by adding complementary data sources including GPS data from commercial fleets and consumer devices. GPS data from Nokia, as well as other popular European devices and handsets, will be integrated into the NAVTEQ Traffic solution this year.

NAVTEQ Traffic enables a single-source, uninterrupted traffic service when crossing borders in Europe and is also available in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and The Netherlands. It is a quality-tested, comprehensive solution which links up-to-the minute traffic information to map data and enables wireless transmission directly to in-vehicle navigation systems, personal navigation devices and cell phones. NAVTEQ Traffic delivers detailed information about road construction, traffic speeds and incidents such as accidents, allowing drivers to make better routing and re-routing decisions.
