Mouchel to develop Bridge Management Software ....

Mouchel to develop Bridge Management Software System for Waterways Ireland

Mouchel, the consulting and business services group, have been appointed by Waterways Ireland to design, develop and implement a Bridge Management Software System.

Waterways Ireland is one of the six North/South Implementation Bodies established under the British-Irish Agreement in 1999.

The unique project will be delivered by the Geomatics team of LandAspects - Mouchel’s consultation and land information management division.

Waterways Ireland’s approach to their Bridge Management System has been innovative with awards received, several technical papers written, and presentations made internationally.

With responsibility for the management, maintenance, development and restoration of inland navigable waterways principally for recreational purposes, Waterways Ireland will require LandAspects to produce a software system to assist them in managing the inspection, repair and maintenance of bridges, aqueducts and culverts.

Waterways under the remit of Waterways Ireland are the Barrow Navigation, the Erne System, the Grand Canal, the Lower Bann Navigation, the Royal Canal, the Shannon-Erne Waterway and the Shannon Navigation.

Gary Simpson, Systems Development Manager for LandAspects sees a lot of potential in the project:

“This is a great opportunity for the development team to demonstrate the full breadth and extent of our capabilities. We are particularly keen to continue developing mobile data management devices following the successful implementation of mobile GIS on the A5 project in NI.”

Ashley Parry Jones, Divisional Director responsible for the Geomatics team in LandAspects says:

“This industry-first system gives us a chance to cultivate our already successful software development track record, putting us in a position to develop and deliver bigger and better systems internally and externally. We look forward to building a great relationship with Waterways Ireland.”

The Geomatics team in LandAspects consists of professionals from Systems Design and Development, Software Engineering, GIS consultancy and surveying.
