More sponsors support AGI GeoCommunity 2008

As preparation continues for AGI GeoCommunity '08, AGI is pleased to report five more sponsors who have signed up to support and participate in the event.

Autodesk and Microsoft have opted for Gold Sponsorship. New Silver Sponsors include Limehouse Software, SeaZone Solutions and Sigma Seven.

These five new sponsors join ESRI (UK), Ordnance Survey, British Geological Survey, Cadcorp, Capita Symonds, Dotted Eyes, Generic Software Consultants, GeoInformation Group, GGP Systems, Informed Solutions, Infoterra, NAVTEQ, Oracle, Innogistic, Snowflake Software and STAR-APIC who have already committed support to AGI GeoCommunity '08.

"We welcome these latest sponsors and thank them for their support for our annual conference" said Chris Holcroft, AGI Director. "We offer only a fixed number of sponsorship places. Those places are now nearly gone and we encourage any organisations interested in taking the remaining sponsorship to contact us soon to avoid missing out", he added.

About AGI GeoCommunity '08

AGI GeoCommunity '08 will be a residential conference designed to bring together practitioners, academics, policy makers and suppliers with thought leaders from the UK and overseas. The conference will provide an opportunity for its participants to learn from their peers, train and debate policy and technology issues, plus build relationships through networking. The theme of the conference will be 'Shaping a Changing World'.

The conference will run from 24th to 25th September 2008 in Stratford-upon-Avon. In the evening of the 23rd September, a pre-conference 'icebreaker' event will also be run at the same venue for early arrivals. As in 2007 highly competitive delegate rates, including all accommodation and meals, should attract a larger than ever attendance from across the public and private sectors. On the night of the first day of the conference, delegates will enjoy a party buffet dinner and entertainment plus a range of competitions and activities.

This year's conference will also offer a limited number of sponsors' spaces to showcase new products and services and meet with delegates at their exhibition pods. The conference format will offer our sponsors an unmatched opportunity to achieve close contact with the key participants and influencers in our industry.

For more information and to book a delegate place, please see www.agi2008.com.

Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.

HAVE WE REALLY LEARNT THE LESSONS FROM LAST YEAR’S FLOODS?

Flooding costs associated with extreme weather, both financial and emotional, have increased considerably over the last decade, and experts have predicted this trend is set to continue.

Paul Livett, Chairman of GroundSure looks into how increasing the use of flood risk information in property transactions can help to ensure both residential and commercial transactions are conducted on a truly informed basis, with buyers being made aware of environmental risks prior to purchase.

Over 2.2 million homes and small businesses in the UK are located in areas considered at risk of flooding, and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said that 570,000 of these face a high risk of flooding. The floods in June and July last year left approximately 48,000 households… More…
