Mayrise Maps Road Works for South Gloucestershire

South Gloucestershire Council (UK) is using handheld devices powered by Mayrise service management and mapping software to improve the co-ordination of street works and assist with safety inspections. Street Works Officers and Safety Inspectors armed with pocket PC’s from Dell can carry out routine inspections accessing the latest back office information and street-level mapping in the field. Council staff are also automatically recording defects via a series of simple drop down menus improving the efficiency of safety inspections and increasing the speed with which defects are resolved.

Using MAYRISE Mobile for Street Works and MAYRISE MapNow mapping software running on Dell Axim X51v devices, South Gloucestershire Council is improving the overall management and co-ordination of street works. Street Works Officers carrying out routine inspections and reporting of live works can access essential back office information in the field, they can also record information and complete statutory inspections as required by the New Roads and Street Works Act. Safety Inspectors are also using the devices to store and access their inspection routes, record defects found in the field and automatically upload reports to the centralised Mayrise system.

“Using the mobile devices powered by Mayrise we are achieving tangible gains in efficiency,” commented Vicky Gent, Street Works Co-ordinator for South Gloucestershire Council. “Officers in the field can access the information they need - when they need it, we have eliminated the need to manually input field records which in turn reduces the potential for errors to be introduced and we can also issue invoices at a push of a button. This reduced administrative burden means we can concentrate on the job in hand ensuring the safety of road users and minimising the disruption caused by works.”

MAYRISE Mobile for Street Works has been specifically designed for Local Authority Street Works Inspectors. The mobile version of the system helps inspectors identify works, complete inspection reports and schedule further appointments. Daily schedules together with works checklists are all accessed from a series of easy to use drop down menus whilst data collected in the field is input to the device and can, depending on the devices used, be directly transferred to the main system using a wireless connection. High-speed mobile communications also enable the devices to communicate with the centralised Street Works system giving Inspectors access to detailed works records in the field.
