Recently, there has been quite a lot of confusion raised about the use of Ordnance Survey-derived data on internet mapping hosts such as Google Maps, Microsoft Live and Yahoo Maps.
Essentially, users of OS data are not permitted to pass on OS-derived data to Google since they will be granting Google a license to use such data, regardless whether data is hosted on their system or that Google’s maps are also licensed from OS. Although, both OS and Google have tried to clarify their terms and conditions, it is still abundantly clear that confusion still remains rife.
The MapInfo User Group (MUGUKI) has successfully assembled key note speakers from OS and Google to come together and discuss this as a half day GIS event on 12th March from 2pm at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham City Centre, Smallbrook, Queensway, Birmingham B5 4EW. This event is open to all GIS users from all levels and organizations.
Tea and coffee will be provided. MUGUKI members will be able to bring along two people from their organizations free of charge whilst visitors/non members will be charged £25 each.
Please register your interest (http://www.muguk.com > MUGUKI Events > OS vs Google Debate) to attend this very topical debate and get your questions answered once and for all!
