Leica Geosystems SmartNet Reaches Milestone as the RPS Group Purchases 500th SmartNet License
Leica Geosystems, manufacturer of measuring and positioning equipment, today announced that it has sold its 500th Leica SmartNet license to the RPS Group Plc, making SmartNet the most popular and widely used Network RTK in Great Britain.
RPS is an international consulting company specialised in the development of natural resources, land and property, the management of the environment, and the health and safety of people. Consultancy advice is provided to the private and public sectors, and combines design excellence with best practice to deliver projects across a broad spectrum of markets worldwide.
RPS has purchased two Leica SmartNet licenses together with two Leica SmartRovers and base stations to compliment its existing Leica TPS1200 total stations, which are used for topographical, elevations and measured
building surveys throughout the UK.
“The ease and speed of use of the SmartNet system provides our surveyors with a cost effective alternative to traditional surveying techniques” says Paul Griffiths, Technical Director of Surveying, RPS Milton Keynes. “We
have seen the benefits of using SmartNet in our Bristol and Milton Keynes offices and are looking to expand this for our surveyors in our
Wolverhampton office.”
“The success and uptake of Leica SmartNet has been phenomenal. Our customers recognise the speed, flexibility and accuracy of this service and have continued to renew their licenses year on year.” comments Mark
Burbidge, GNSS Network & Technical Support Manager, Leica Geosystems. “We are the only provider with a network of base stations working together with Ordnance Survey’s network of base stations called OS Net, making Leica SmartNet the most comprehensive Network RTK service available on the market.”
Leica Geosystems entered into partnership with Ordnance Survey in 2005 to offer Great Britain’s first commercial Network RTK, Leica SmartNet. Now after its second year SmartNet has developed, with extended base stations
throughout Great Britain and Ireland and has grown in popularity with over 500 licenses. As a result of this success and commitment Leica Geosystems was awarded with the prestigious Ordnance Survey Gold Partner Award 2007.
