Isle of Man Post Office provides improved parcel delivery service for customers with Skillweb solution
New mobile computing system provides track and trace parcel service
Situated in the middle of the Irish Sea, Isle of Man Post Office is the largest postal and courier service on the Isle of Man. It has selected a full track and trace managed service from Skillweb, a leading supplier of innovative mobile computing solutions for the logistics industry. The service enables the Post Office to capture customer signatures and delivery information in near real-time for deliveries throughout the Island. Using the new system has enabled the Post Office to offer an improved customer delivery service and more accurate data collection for third party business parcel carriers.
Isle of Man postal delivery workers have been equipped with mobile devices incorporating barcode scanners and a touch screen to capture customer signatures. The Post Office selected Skillweb’s 2020ePOD solution following a tender process, where it reviewed several other competitive products. Skillweb’s solution most closely matched the organisation’s needs and was also priced competitively.
According to Mike Cubbon, General Manager Parcels, at Isle of Man Post Office: “We decided that we required a parcel tracking system as many of our business partners had already invested in similar technology. We wanted one that could talk to our partners’ systems and that also suited our needs.
“Skillweb’s solution was exactly what we required – it could be developed within our tight time and budget constraints. We were also impressed with Skillweb’s proven expertise and established reputation in the business.”
Customer signatures are captured on delivery and the details of the shipment are transmitted to file servers hosted by Skillweb. This data is then sent on to third party carriers to provide proof of delivery in the Isle of Man. Similarly, all parcels posted at post offices or collected by courier drivers have their consignment data captured through Isle of Man Post Office’s internal systems then sent via the Skillweb solution to the parcel carrier systems.
The Customer Services Team has access to real-time delivery information and is quickly able to update customers exactly on the status of their delivery. Using just one system has also improved efficiencies, both in the time taken to input and process delivery information and for the production of invoices for large accounts.
Chris Wright, Managing Director and co-founder of Skillweb said, “Skillweb specialises in courier applications that many delivery companies now consider essential for an effective doorstep service. Capturing and reporting back with real-time delivery information enables couriers to keep customers informed and to manage their delivery service efficiently.”
