as the 2010 INSPIRE Conference

On 22 June 2010, a presentation on “GIS4EU - a Cooperative project to apply the INSPIRE Directive” will be made within the INSPIRE Conference 2010 that takes place from 23 to 25 June 2010 in Krakow, Poland.

GIS4EU Project activities focused on developing a common data model on a European scale for several of the INSPIRE Directive Annex I data themes. The project involved different types of partners, including operational users, researchers, geodata technicians and data providers, addressing different technical, organisational and operational aspects from the different points of view of the stakeholders.

The workshop will follow the same path as the activities developed during the project, summarised according to the work completed towards the end of the project, with the intention of further disseminating the results and extending the reach of the project to the SDI communities across Europe.

In particular, the workshop will present the different operational steps needed to implement the available INSPIRE data models, regarding the four themes addressed by the project: Administrative units, Hydrography, Transport Networks and Elevation.

The workshop will present the workflows that were developed during the second year of the project, using the operational steps developed and engineered during that phase. These can help users and their organisations to implement the INSPIRE Directive and better understand its implications. The results achieved provide a clear view of the logical steps that they need to follow to implement the INSPIRE Directive at their own levels.

A dedicated speech on the “Impact analysis of the operational implementation of the INSPIRE rules in data harmonisation and aggregation: the GIS4EU case” will be held on Thursday, 24 June, 2010.

The presentation will describe the methodology and the results of the GIS4EU process Impact Analysis which provides a snapshot of the operational implementation of the INSPIRE rules on more than 50 datasets from 10 local/regional/national data providers distributed in five different European Countries.
