Imass to supply Kent Fire & Rescue Service with location-based information management system

- Corporate system to allow more effective management and link to NLPG

Imass Ltd, an Infoterra company, has won the contract to supply Kent Fire & Rescue Service (KFRS) with a corporate gazetteer management solution.

This solution will enable the creation and maintenance of a complete corporate location information resource - supporting effective management of all location-based information, such as local address and mapping data. Also, as this software solution meets the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) standard, KFRS will be able to access the NLPG national hub of address data - more than 32 million records - to receive regular updates and input up-to-date local information. Therefore enabling KFRS to make the best use of national address sources and local knowledge.

"We have been using the National Land and Property Gazetteer for some years, having recognised its vital role in ensuring the delivery of our service, now and in the future. Within the Service there is a high expectation regarding the management and accessibility of information. This new location management system will ensure all our location data can be linked consistently and made available across the whole service, and should also stand us in good stead for future service and system developments," said Eric Baines, Head of Information Systems, Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

This software solution from Aligned Assets, specialists in gazetteer solutions, will be installed during Q2 of this year with all teams receiving training ready for deployment throughout the service.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is responsible for delivering fire and rescue services to more than 1.6 million people in the Kent and Medway region, from 66 fire stations and four fire safety offices. With more than 400km (250 miles) of motorway and major trunk roads, and over 225km (139 miles) of coastline, inland waterways and the busiest sea channel in the world, the service is used to dealing with a huge range of hazardous and dangerous incidents every day.
