Geovate and win a £10,000 first prize: the Geovation Awards Programme

The GeoVation Awards Programme is an exciting new competition offering up to £21,000 to be won in awards to develop new ideas that use geography.

GeoVation logoOrdnance Survey has conceived and sponsored this new competition to enable and facilitate great new ideas. GeoVation will help government, business, community and individuals work together to develop ideas that benefit society, make money or both. There are some big challenges that geography can help address and these challenges can only be solved with the help, skills, experience expertise and enthusiasm of innovative minds.

'AGI positively welcomes this type of stimulus from our industry that reward creative thinkers and develop further the power and potential of geography' said Chris Holcroft, Director of the Association for Geographic Information (AGI). 'We hope that GeoVation can be a successful way to draw in some great ideas and help fund their realisation' he added.

Entries to the competition are NOW OPEN until 11:59am on the 4th of January 2010.

The Geovation Programme judging panel is looking for ideas that can demonstrate their innovative potential, sustainability and how they use geography.

For more details see the Judging Criteria https://challenge.geovation.org.uk/gap-criteria.

The GeoVation team are hosting an Ideas Forum event on the 2nd November at the RSA from 6.30 to 9.30 where you will be able to meet other innovators and learn more about the Awards Program. Registration for the evening is free at http://gvideas.eventbrite.com

Out of the entries submitted on January 4th judges will select a shortlist of up to 10 finalists who will be invited to present at the Show Case event, to be held on January 26th 2010 at the Royal Geographic Society in London.

At the event finalists will be asked to present to and answer questions from the judges and assembled audience, for the opportunity to win one of four prizes. First prize is £10,000, two runner-up prizes of £5,000 and a community choice award, voted by the audience, of £1,000.

All prizes are expected to be used in developing the winning ideas.
