GRITiT and Masternaut real-time innovation

Leeds, UK, 03 November 2009 - Masternaut Three X and GRITIT - the UK's leading commercial winter maintenance specialist - have developed a unique web-based solution for rigorous management of UK-wide commercial gritting operations. The system is fully operational and allowed GRITIT to maintain its high performance levels and attention to service detail during the chaotic winter of 2008.

Utilising the latest in Masternaut Three X's real-time vehicle tracking and telematics, PDA-based mobile field service software and real-time business intelligence solution, VisuLive, the fully integrated system demonstrates GRITIT's committed to innovative technology for maintaining its competitive edge and delivering consistent service excellence.

"In this business we have zero margins for error. With Masternaut we have full control over every situation. From real-time vehicle movements, to live updates for onsite activity - we know precisely where each and every operator is at any time. We know exactly who is driving which vehicle, when they arrive on site, when they complete the work and leave. The fully automated system records a full history of each job - in short it allows us to operate a tightly managed nationwide service," says Jason Petsch, Commercial Director, GRITIT.

GRITIT receives MORST (Met Office Road Surface Temperature) reports that are entered into the system to generate jobs, which are automatically sent to the operators' PDAs. As soon as they are ready to leave the local depot, the driver ID key logs who is driving which vehicle and the system maintains a real-time record of travel time, speed, fuel consumption and routes. All of this can be viewed by managers and customer service staff.

"We have a network of local depots that operate within regions covering the whole of the United Kingdom. Without this level of automation we would need more people to plan, manage and monitor their workloads. Instead of arduous administration, we can concentrate on getting the job done effectively and efficiently - all backed up by a live data record for each customer site. In addition, the system's GreenerFleet functionality provides control of the environmental impact of our business as well as the safety of our drivers while travelling to and from sites," says Jason Petsch.

GRITIT specialises in the provision of winter risk management services to the public and private sectors. The company is one of the only firms in the UK to specialise in gritting services and all worked performed is fully underwritten, with total transfer of liability. The company provides services to major retailers, offices, the NHS and education and industry.
