GEO-8 Conference and Seminar Programme Announced

GEO-8, the exciting new exhibition targeted at engineering, surveying, geomatics and GIS professionals, has announced a world-class conference and seminar programme. The programme features keynote presentations from the Chief Executive of the Ordnance Survey Vanessa Lawrence and visionary geomatics professional Simon Barnes together with presentations from senior representatives of organisations such as the Environment Agency, 1 Spatial and Leica Geosystems. In addition to the stimulating conference programme there will be a series of topical seminars addressing issues such as the role of surveying in tackling organised crime and taking field data capture back to basics. GEO-8 together with the m3 conference will take place on the 9-10th April 2008 at the Ricoh Arena Coventry.

“We believe the combination of the UK’s biggest exhibition showcasing all aspects of geospatial information, a world class conference programme and topical yet entertaining seminars make this an event geomatics professionals can ill afford to miss,” said Stephen Booth of PV Publications, organisers of the event and publishers of Geomatics World, GIS Professional and Engineering Surveying Showcase.

The m3 Conference focuses on the 3m’s of geospatial information - measuring, modelling, managing, providing the opportunity for geospatial professionals to come together to discuss current practice, consider current and emerging technologies and to hear topical presentations from high profile business leaders, practitioners, academics and researchers. Under the theme ‘GIS and Survey: marriage or cohabitation’ the conference aims to connect the fields of survey and geographical information systems (GIS) and explore how technologies in current usage can shape new solutions and business processes.

GEO-8 combines the hugely successful annual event the World of Geomatics with a new opportunity - GIS Innovations - and is set to become the UK’s biggest exhibition showcasing all aspects of geospatial information. GEO-8 has already attracted top names from the international world of measurement and data collection together with leading suppliers of geographical information solutions, respected UK educational establishments and professional trade organisations.

GEO-8 will take place on the 9th and 10th of April 2008 at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry; a world-class centre for business, entertainment and sport. The Ricoh Arena offers state-of-the-art conference, banqueting, exhibition, hotel and sports facilities and the multi purpose complex has already won awards for its design. Occupying more than 40 acres close to the M6 motorway the Arena is home to Coventry City Football Club and has also attracted stars such as Brian Adams, Bon Jovi and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers to the Midlands city.

This Month's Burning Issue...

This month's burning issue:

HAVE WE REALLY LEARNT THE LESSONS FROM LAST YEAR’S FLOODS?

Flooding costs associated with extreme weather, both financial and emotional, have increased considerably over the last decade, and experts have predicted this trend is set to continue.

Paul Livett, Chairman of GroundSure looks into how increasing the use of flood risk information in property transactions can help to ensure both residential and commercial transactions are conducted on a truly informed basis, with buyers being made aware of environmental risks prior to purchase.

Over 2.2 million homes and small businesses in the UK are located in areas considered at risk of flooding, and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said that 570,000 of these face a high risk of flooding. The floods in June and July last year left approximately 48,000 households… More…
