GEO-8 All Set For Success

GEO-8 All Set For Success

With less than three weeks to go GEO-8, the exciting new exhibition targeted at engineering, surveying, geomatics and GIS professionals, is set for success. The event has already attracted well over forty exhibitors, including leading software, data and service providers together with academic organisations and trade bodies, and bookings are still being received. The addition of a world class conference programme combined with a series of topical seminars has led to record delegate bookings and the organisers are confident this event will become a firm favourite in the GI and geomatics calendar. GEO-8 together with the m3 conference will take place on the 9-10th April 2008 at the Ricoh Arena Coventry.

Organisations that have confirmed their attendance at GEO-8 include leading software suppliers Autodesk, Cadcorp, GGP Systems, Innogistic and Tenet together with data and mapping companies Ordnance Survey, Bluesky, COWI, Getmapping and Nigel Press Associates. Sponsor organisations Leica and Trimble head up an impressive array of surveying and geomatics solution and service providers including 3D Laser Mapping, KOREC, Topcon, Pentax and SIA while the world of academia and professional trade bodies are represented by the Association for Geographic Information, the British Cartographic Society, ICES, Kingston University, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the University of East London.

“We believe the combination of the UK’s biggest exhibition showcasing all aspects of geospatial information, a world class conference programme and topical yet entertaining seminars make this an event GI and geomatics professionals can ill afford to miss,” said Stephen Booth of PV Publications, organisers of the event and publishers of Geomatics World, GIS Professional and Engineering Surveying Showcase. “Even this close to the event we are still receiving enquiries and bookings from companies who clearly believe they cannot afford to miss out and this in turn has encouraged record delegate registrations.”

The m3 Conference running alongside GEO-8 focuses on the 3m’s of geospatial information - measuring, modelling and managing. Under the theme ‘GIS and Survey: marriage or cohabitation’ the conference aims to connect the fields of survey and geographical information systems (GIS) and explore how technologies in current usage can shape new solutions and business processes. With keynote presentations from the Chief Executive of the Ordnance Survey Vanessa Lawrence and visionary geomatics professional Simon Barnes together with presentations from senior representatives of organisations such as the Environment Agency, 1 Spatial and Leica Geosystems the conference provides the perfect opportunity for geospatial professionals to come together to discuss current practice, consider current and emerging technologies and to hear topical presentations from high profile business leaders, practitioners, academics and researchers.

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

HAVE WE REALLY LEARNT THE LESSONS FROM LAST YEAR’S FLOODS?

Flooding costs associated with extreme weather, both financial and emotional, have increased considerably over the last decade, and experts have predicted this trend is set to continue.

Paul Livett, Chairman of GroundSure looks into how increasing the use of flood risk information in property transactions can help to ensure both residential and commercial transactions are conducted on a truly informed basis, with buyers being made aware of environmental risks prior to purchase.

Over 2.2 million homes and small businesses in the UK are located in areas considered at risk of flooding, and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said that 570,000 of these face a high risk of flooding. The floods in June and July last year left approximately 48,000 households… More…
