GEO-10 Outshines the Competition

GEO-10 Outshines the Competition

As GEO-10, the UK’s No 1 GEO Event, closed it’s doors with praise from visitors, exhibitors and speakers the organisers are already preparing for next year’s show. Comments including “informative and enjoyable”, “well organised” and “useful to meet clients” were recorded on the event questionnaires and one exhibitor told the organisers that Geo-10 “was a zillion times better” than an event he had recently attended. The organisers of GEO-10 are now looking at dates and possible venues for GEO-11 and further announcements are expected soon.

GEO-10 took place on the 24th and 25th March at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry and attracted nearly 600 people as visitors, speakers and exhibitor personnel. GEO-10 combined a trade exhibition featuring event sponsors ESRI (UK), the Association for Geographic Information (AGI), the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society (RSPSoc) and surveying specialists SCCS together with well known names from the fields of measurement and data collection, advanced geospatial analysis and visualisation. GEO-10 also featured for the first time this year two free seminar streams including speakers from Ordnance Survey, University College London, English Heritage, MapAction and the British Horse Society. One visitor commented, “I found Geo-10 very interesting, I attended two seminar sessions and they were really what made the day” while another said “I regret not spending more time there really … when I come next year I will definitely plan to spend the whole day”.

The GEO-10 event also featured a selection of networking opportunities including a Las Vegas themed gala evening complete with showgirls, an Elvis impersonator and casino tables. “The idea of the Las Vegas themed Gala Dinner with informal atmosphere and Casino ‘trials’ was excellent – one of the best I have been to,” commented one partygoer. The evening also gave attendees the chance to give something back with a charity raffle raising funds for MapAction, the emergency mapping charity.

“Given the current economic circumstances and competition from a rival event just three weeks before GEO-10 we are extremely pleased with how the show went,” commented Stephen Booth of PV Publications, organisers of the event and publishers of Geomatics World, GIS Professional and Engineering Surveying Showcase. “Exhibitor numbers were up on last year while visitor numbers were marginally down – due in part I suspect to the ongoing recession and organisations choosing to send only one or two members of staff who could then report back to colleagues.”

The GEO events are designed for everyone involved in the capture and application of geospatial information for construction, civil engineering, development, local / national government agencies, professional survey practice and consultancy. Attracting exhibitors demonstrating the latest technology and developments in the fields of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning and Navigation systems, laser scanning, data modelling and analysis and mapping together with leading trade organisations and academic institutions the GEO events are a must attend.
