Barcelona, Spain Emergency Management Centre to Deploy Intergraph Emergency Incident Response, Planning and Reporting Solutions
Integrated command and control system to provide situational awareness and enhance incident prevention and response efforts
The municipality of Barcelona, Spain will deploy Intergraph®’s leading emergency incident response, planning and reporting solutions. Police and fire-fighters in Barcelona will join emergency responders in other large European cities including Berlin, Geneva, Zurich, Switzerland and Vienna, Austria, by leveraging Intergraph’s widely deployed public safety solution. The solution, which has also been deployed as a national system in Belgium, as well as by the Bavarian State Police and German Federal Police, will deliver integrated incident management capabilities.
The new computer aided dispatch system will replace Barcelona City Emergency Management Centre’s proprietary, legacy system, Mycelium. The Intergraph system will provide a variety of advanced capabilities including integrated emergency response, communication and coordination with emergency response and security agencies in other municipalities. Intergraph’s technology will also provide an intelligent system of receiving emergency calls, mobile deployment of responders, and a graphical view of all elements essential for emergency response and management.
Through the use of Intergraph’s technology, call takers can utilise interactive, intelligent maps to immediately locate incidents and deploy the closest responders to the site through the 100.4 sq. km. (39 square mile) municipality.
The Intergraph public safety system will provide incident response management functionality in support of situational awareness for dispatchers and first responders. This enhanced situational awareness will promote efficiency and effectiveness when seconds count.
In addition to major European cities, Intergraph public safety solutions protect the public globally in metropolises such as Rio de Janeiro; Mumbai; Istanbul; Washington, D.C. and Toronto, as well as smaller cities including Abilene in Texas and Hamilton in Ontario.
“Supporting emergency response in Barcelona, the second largest city in Spain, presents a broad set of challenges for emergency management personnel,” stated Alexis Culubret, information system manager, Prevention, Security and Mobility Department of Barcelona City.
Joan Albert Dalmau, manager of Prevention, Security and Mobility Department of Barcelona City added, “By deploying Intergraph’s public safety software, our dispatchers and responders will be in a position to more effectively respond to incidents, helping to ensure the safety and security of those who live and work in our community.”
“Intergraph’s emergency incident response, planning and reporting solutions are used in over 25 countries and protect nearly a half billion people worldwide, approximately one in every 13 people,” said John K. Graham, president, Intergraph Security, Government and Infrastructure. “By leveraging our integrated command and control system, police officers, fire-fighters and dispatchers in Barcelona will benefit from increased situational awareness, which will advance their efforts to prevent and respond to critical incidents, ultimately advancing the safety and well-being of Barcelona’s 1.5 million residents.”

Adopting Cloud computing can save money, but good governance is essential to manage the risk argues Mike Small
